Meta is set to unveil a new line of smart glasses at its upcoming Connect conference next month, including its first consumer-ready glasses featuring an integrated display, according to CNBC.

The company also plans to introduce a smart wristband that allows users to control the glasses using hand gestures. This wristband will accompany two new smart glasses models leveraging Meta’s latest technology.

Internally, one of the glasses is codenamed Hypernova, expected to retail for around $800. Meta is partnering again with the French company EssilorLuxottica, which previously collaborated with Meta to launch Ray-Ban smart glasses.

EssilorLuxottica is behind a wide range of luxury eyewear brands, including Ray-Ban, Prada, and others, which suggests that the new glasses may be released under several premium labels.

Reports indicate that the new smart glasses may be based on the Orion AR prototype, first revealed last year at the Connect conference.

While the glasses will feature a display, the screen has a 20-degree field of view, offering a small, fixed window primarily for text display.

Meta’s development of the gesture-control wristband aligns with research from the company’s CTRL lab, which has created technology to read electrical signals from the arm using a smart wearable.

The new glasses are expected to offer additional features beyond traditional voice-controlled smart glasses, including the ability to capture and preview photos, display key information on the lenses, and integrate advanced AI-powered functionalities.

Notably, the Ray-Ban smart glasses remain one of Meta’s most successful innovations in the wearable and AR headset market, selling two million units in 2023.
