iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 17 Prices: Will Apple’s Next Generation Cost More?
iPhone 17 Series Pricing: Will Apple Raise Costs Compared to iPhone 16?
Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup is just around the corner, with the company expected to unveil the new models on Tuesday alongside other devices.
While earlier reports and analysts predicted a noticeable price hike compared to the iPhone 16 series, recent forecasts suggest Apple may keep prices largely unchanged—except for one model.
In a new note, J.P. Morgan projected that most iPhone 17 prices would remain consistent with last year’s lineup:
iPhone 17: $799 (no change)
iPhone 17 Air: $899–$949 (no change or up to $50 increase)
iPhone 17 Pro: $1,099 (a $100 increase, but with higher base storage)
iPhone 17 Pro Max: $1,199 (no change)
By comparison, launch prices for the iPhone 16 series were:
iPhone 16: $799
iPhone 16 Plus: $899
iPhone 16 Pro: $999
iPhone 16 Pro Max: $1,199
If J.P. Morgan’s forecast holds, the iPhone 17 Pro will be the only model to see a price bump. However, that increase is offset by a higher base storage of 256GB, up from 128GB on the iPhone 16 Pro—effectively making its value comparable to last year’s model.
The most interesting pricing twist comes with the iPhone 17 Air, Apple’s ultra-thin new model replacing the “Plus” variant. It could debut at $899, the same as the iPhone 16 Plus, or at $949, reflecting its slimmer design.
Analysts suggest Apple could justify the higher price through the Air’s ultra-thin design, a first for the iPhone lineup. But pricing it at $899 could help offset potential drawbacks, such as weaker camera performance or shorter battery life compared to bulkier models.
