Expected Announcements at Meta Connect 2025
Meta is gearing up for its annual tech showcase, Meta Connect 2025, which kicks off on Wednesday at 5:00 PM PT.
The event will open with a keynote from CEO Mark Zuckerberg, focusing on the company’s latest developments in smart glasses, artificial intelligence, and the metaverse, according to Meta’s official site.
While details remain under wraps, Zuckerberg has been hinting at major reveals. Reports from Euronews, seen by Al Arabiya Business, suggest some big announcements are likely in store.
1. Third-Generation Smart Glasses
One of the most anticipated launches is the third generation of Meta’s smart glasses.
During a January call with investors, Zuckerberg said:
“Our Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses are a real breakout success. This is the year we’ll truly understand the path of AI glasses as a category.”
He added that many consumer electronics hit 5–10 million sales by their third generation, calling 2025 a decisive year for scaling into hundreds of millions—and eventually billions—of AI glasses.
Meta first launched its smart glasses in 2021 with EssilorLuxottica, makers of Ray-Ban. Since then, it has also partnered with Oakley.
Current Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta AI glasses can access the Meta AI assistant for voice queries, instant translations, calls, and messages when connected to a smartphone.
This year, Meta is expected to debut Live AI, allowing glasses to “see” what the user sees and respond in real time for hours.
2. Project “Celeste”
Meta may also unveil details about a new pair of smart glasses, rumored under the codename Celeste.
Reports suggest Celeste will resemble the 2023 Ray-Ban Meta glasses, but with the addition of an integrated display.
The glasses may not ship in 2025, but Zuckerberg could outline a launch timeline during the event.
3. A Meta Smartwatch?
Meta doesn’t currently offer a smartwatch, though rumors of its development have circulated for years. Some reports suggest the company is reviving plans for a wearable device, possibly with a built-in camera lens to complement its smart glasses ecosystem.
4. The Metaverse Lives On
Despite pivoting heavily toward AI, Meta hasn’t abandoned its metaverse vision, which drove the company’s rebrand in 2021.
Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth hinted at new metaverse programs, possibly including VR gaming or streaming services, though no official word has surfaced about new VR headset hardware.
